ÖRNEK
Tolga Örnek graduated from
the İstanbul Technical University with BS in Metallurgical
Engineering in 1994. He then went to the United States for his
masters’ degree. He earned his masters degree at the
University of Florida in Materials Science and Engineering.
Later, his passion for movies led him to a different career
path and he decided to study film. He went to the American
University in Washington, DC and graduated with an MA in Film
and Video Production in 1998. His graduation project was Atatürk,
an 81-minute English language documentary on the founder and
the first president of Turkey. He received third prize in the
Us International Film and Video Festival and was a finalist in
San Diego International Film Festival with this documentary.
In 1999,he made a 45-minute
documentary on the history of Turkey’s most favourite soccer
team, Fenerbahçe. He also produced the Topkapı
Palace Interactive CD-ROM for the Turkish and US
educational market. In the year 2000 he directed the 52-minute
English language documentary about the mysteries and
civilisations of Mount Nemrud: the Throne of the Gods.
He earned the Golden Camera award in the US International Film
and Video Festival, 2001 with this documentary. Also in 2001,
he made Çeliğin Kalbi Ereğli and in 2003 he
completed his most ambitious project The Hittites. So
far, Hittites had been very successful after the
premieres both in USA and Turkey.
His next project is also a
very big and detailed one about the Battle of Gallipoli.
